CBS 60 Minutes featured a story about 3 million jobs going unfilled because of lack of skilled aplicants. They showed a modern machine shop with computer controlled fabracation machines that can increase productivity 10 times the old standard. The pay for these modern machinists? $12 per hour. I made $20 per hour as a serviceman maintaining refrigerated railroad cars and overseas shipping containers before I retired in 2008. Thats just $24,000 per year for the machinist with a wife and two childern. This puts him on the border of a poverty wage class.
